Microsofts answer to the iPhone - the ZenZui

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Yesterday Microsoft announced that they were launching a new independent company called ZenZui. ZenZui is a mobile interface company focusing on changing they way that users interact with the web via mobile devices. Wow… what an accomplishment! What they really have is a license to use a patented Microsoft technology to make zooming widgets.

Watch this video and you will get a small idea of what the zooming technology they are talking about can do.

Hmm… nothing that I have not talked about and already seen in the iPhone… I wonder how this patent will hold up.

But more importantly I would like to point out how ugly all the devices in the video are! They are all hideous! It further strengthens my point that Apples big advantage is in building both the software and the hardware.

iPhone Browser Video

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

This video is what got me excitted about the iPhone in the very first place.!

I love how instead of showing some bad rendition of a web page done for a small monitor, it has a great zoom in/out feature.  By default the iPhone just scales the page to fit the width of the display, then you can zoom in on an area and get more specific details. How cool!

Also, you should see how when you tilt the iPhone from horizontal to verticle, the display will change from landscape to portrait.  Even cooler!

Funny Saturday Night Live Skit of Steve Jobs and iPhone

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

This is a must see for anybody who is a big Steve Jobs fan and/or a SNL fan.

They are basically making fun of Steve and his mannerisms and how the iPhone can basically replace all your mobile devices.

No gphone… integrated apps for the iPhone instead!

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

According to this source google has never really considered building their own iPhone, but rather they are focusing on building integrated applications for the iPhone and other smart phones.

I think this makes total sense… as I’ve stated before, Apple is great at making consumer devices because they control both the hardware development and the software development lifecycles. As Apple learned with its failed Motorola venture the ROKR, when they don’t control both product lifecycles, it will be a failure.

Google is trying to quash iPhone rumors

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

On Wednesday, Google took steps to remove itself from rumors that it had entered the smart phone race by claiming that hardware wasn’t its main concern.

“At this point in time, we are very focused on the software, not the phone,” said Richard Kimber, Google’s director of southeast Asian sales and operations. This comment synched with statements made by Google evangelist Vint Cerf’s comments made earlier this month that the company was more interested in constructing platforms for other firms.

These efforts, stated Kimber, would be demonstrated by integrating Google’s search tools rather than in creating its own device according to AppleInsider. This claim is backed by Google’s recent deals with Samsung and other handset device firms that have agreed to install the company’s search and mapping tools on their units. In addition, Apple has agreed to include Google’s search and map tools on its upcoming iPhone, due out this June.

If you have any opinions or ideas on this, let us know.

Is google after the iPhone

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Rumor has it that google is building a competitor to the iPhone… While I think this might be true, I think google is missing a key element that will make apple so successful in this space. That is a long history of building consumer focused HARDWARE.

Consider the iPod… there are lots of iPod killers out there, but none can compete… why? Well apple understands the consumer and they have the huge advantage of building both the software and the hardware. Where as most mp3 players out there are usually built by just a hardware company that runs somebody elses software like windows or palm.

So, can google get a product out… sure… but it wont have the broad sex appeal that the iPhone will!
